 This
library was developed for an established ensemble that Plays many weddings
and parties. Many of these works are suitable for concert performance,
although they were intended primarily as incidental music.
Great care was
taken to make them enjoyable to sight-read, so they are very well cued,
and page turns in the wind parts have been worked out carefully. (The
use of a page turner, however, is recommended for the keyboard Player.)
With a few notable exceptions mentioned below, the keyboard part
(designed for a portable electronic unit with piano, harpsichord and pipe
organ stops) is accompaniment only and very simple in nature.
While conceived
for Flute, Oboe, Bassoon, and Keyboard, most
if not all of these arrangements will work to a greater or lesser extent
substituting string instruments on any or all of the wind parts, or using
Clarinet on the Oboe part. If this is your plan,
a B Flat transposition of the Oboe part can be substituted
at no charge, for an additional part (Oboe at pitch as well as
Clarinet in B Flat) please add $5.
Supplied as
a Keyboard Part/Score in 8½ X 14 horizontal
format, and three parts in standard 8½ X 11 vertical format, covered
in hard stock and plastic bound.
ANTONIN DVORAK: Wind Serenade
A rather long work, Dvorak
Serenade originally scored for a small orchestra without violins,
this provides a very deferent sound from most of the other pieces in the
small collection. In true classic serenade from it includes an opening
march, a minuet and trio (scherzo), a melodious Andante (with significantly
more development than is usual in this form), and rollicking rondo a a
finale.
Piano/Score and Flute, Oboe, & Bassoon
Parts, $60.
G. F. HANDEL: Selections
Includes the Fire-Water
Suite, a collection of seven pieces drawn from the Water Musick
and the Musick for the Royal Fireworks, and a truly marvelous
Trio Sonata in G Minor. We
have found several of these pieces very useful as processionals and recessionals
at weddings (check out "La Paix" and "Rejouissance"), plus
they are all fun to Play.
Keyboard/Score and Flute, Oboe, & Bassoon
Parts $40.
SCOTT JOPLIN: Three Famous
Rags
This is the turn-of-the-20th-Century
master's best known stuff. "The Entertainer",
"Easy Winners", and "Maple Leaf
Rag" all in one place, this collection is probably more fun than
any grown-up should be allowed to have. These are great as a change
of pace or encore at a concert, at children's concerts, or at parties.
The piano parts are significantly more involved than is the norm
for these arrangements, and while they are certainly not beyond the reach
of the average pianist, they may not be suitable for sight-reading by
any but accomplished professionals.
Piano/Score and Flute, Oboe, & Bassoon
Parts $40.
W. A. MOZART:
Concertante
Variations:
From
the Sinfonia Concertante for winds and orchestra, this is a very
enjoyable 10 minutes of Mozart that few people have heard before.
All of the wind Players have their moments as is to be expected, but
there are a couple of surprises for the keyboard Player as well that he/she
might want to investigate before sight-reading.
Piano/Score and Flute, Oboe, & Bassoon
Parts $35.
Suite
from the Gran Partita
Also
known as the 13 Winds Serenade, the original version of
this is rarely heard due to its truly bizarre instrumentation, which is
very unfortunate because there is some magnificent music here. While
not nearly as effective as the original, these arrangements of four movements
from the Partita are still very pleasant to listen to, and all kinds of
fun to Play, with the added benefit of being almost certainly new to the
audience and possibly the Players as well.
Piano/Score and Flute, Oboe, & Bassoon Parts
$40.
Quartet
for Piano and Winds, K. 452
The original
score of this work, for Oboe, Clarinet, Horn, Bassoon,
and Piano has been thought by some to be the finest piece of classical
wind chamber music extant. Mozart himself, in a letter to his father,
called it perhaps his best work. This arrangement tries to maintain
the original character as much as possible. The piano part has
not been changed at all with the exception of two very minor additions
totaling only about six bars in the left hand. NOBODY will want
to sight-read this piano part in performance, trust me on this one.
Piano/Score and Flute, Oboe, & Bassoon
Parts $35.
OPERA SUITES:
Selections from some of Mozart's
operas in instrumental arrangements. Great fun and quite effective to
play a background or concert pieces, these are enjoyed as much by opera
lovers as they are by folks who are hearing this enchanting music for
the first time. Each is about 45 minutes long.
Suite from "The
Marriage of Figaro"
Thirteen
selections, and possibly my own personal favorite of the entire chamber
music library. Some of Mozart's greatest music, what else can I say?
Keyboard/Score and Flute,
Oboe, & Bassoon Parts $60.
Suite from "Cosi
fan Tutte"
Eleven movements, including an abbreviated version of the Overture.
Not as often heard as Figaro, but every bit as interesting.
Keyboard/Score and Flute,
Oboe, & Bassoon Parts $60
Suite from "The
Abduction form the Seraglio"
Eight
selections, includes the full concert version of the overture. This opera
("Singspiel", actually) is rarely performed because of the difficulty
of assembling a cast. The soprano is required to sing high E's and the
bass to sing low E Flats, but we don't really need to worry about that,
do we? This is terrific Mozart, probably new to most people, and all kinds
of fun, as it includes an 18th century European's idea of what Turkish
music would sound like. The outside movements require piccolo in the flute
part.
Keyboard/Score and Flute (Piccolo), Oboe,
& Bassoon Parts $60.
"Wolfie's Night at the Opera" Collection All
Three Suites $150.
Modeste Mouusorgsky:
"Pictures
at an Exhibition"
Although
originally written for Piano solo, this famous work is muck more familiar
in the form of Rimsky-Korsakoff's landmark adaptation for full symphony
orchestra. Obviously, this quartet is not the same thing, but our arrangement
does provide a very pleasing contrast to both Piano-only and the huge-orchestra
versions. I'm probably biased, but I think it works quite well. Piccolo
is called for in the Flute part, and the oboist will need an English Horn.
Keyboard/Score and Flute (Piccolo), Oboe
(English Horn), and BassoonParts $60.
JOHANN STRAUSS:
Four
Concert Waltzes
The collection
includes "Artist's Life" Waltzes, "On the Beautiful Blue
Danube", "Emperor" Waltzes, and "Tales from the Vienna
Woods". Each runs about nine minutes and they are all excellent
pieces to have for use as background - dinner music for parties and weddings.
Not accidentally,
they are also all kinds of fun to Play for the wind Players, though one
must admit the keyboard part is of the oom-pah-pah variety. The
flute part for "Artist's Life" has piccolo-optional sections, and "Tales
from the Vienna Woods" requires piccolo in the Flute part and
English Horn in the Oboe part.

G. P. TELEMANN
Two Quartets
These two works
by the very popular baroque composer (he beat out J. S.
Bach for several plum jobs in the 1730's) are both melodious and
historically interesting. Originally composed as dinner music for
Flute, Oboe (or Recorder), Violin, and Figured
Bass (the original collection was called "Table Music")
they still work very well in that role, but are also well suited to concert
performance. The Bassoon part in these arrangements is an
equal solo voice, not to be confused with the Continuo part of
the originals.
Quartet
in G Major features the Oboe, although all of the other voices
will certainly not become bored. The last movement has always reminded
me of a flock of chirping birds humorously imitated. A very charming
piece overall.
Keyboard/Score and Flute, Oboe, & Bassoon
Parts $30.
Quartet
in D Minor is a more serious work in nature, although still very melodious.
This arrangement has the rather virtuosic alto recorder part in
place of the Oboe. The recorder part can be supplied at
pitch (can also be Played by another flute or violin) or transposed to
F (allowing use of soprano fingerings on an alto recorder.) The
arrangement is also available in a Flute-Oboe-Bassoon
version, which differs slightly from the first version.
Keyboard/Score
and Three parts, Flute, Recorder (Flute or
Violin), & Bassoon $30.
Please specify form of Recorder part. Extra part (both at-pitch and
transposed version) add $5
Flute, Oboe, and Bassoon $30.
Such a Deal Dept. Both quartets (Specify
how you want the D Minor) $50
